Preheat oven: 350 F, 175 C, gas mark 4


Mix steak and kidney and place in a casserole dish with thyme, salt and pepper. Add enough water to just cover the meat. Cook in a slow oven for 2 – 3 hours 350°F, 160°C, gas mark 2. Before serving, increase heat with lid off to reduce fluid if necessary. Serve hot, adding the roughly chopped hard boiled egg just before serving.
